General Info

Orchids are one of the oldest family of flowering plants. Orchid varieties have been found all over the world
Orchid flowers are symmetrical. Each flower can be divided perfectly in half, with two equal parts
An orchid can bloom for two months or more, and can continue to bloom year after year when cared for properly

Watering

Similar to a succulent, wait for the roots to slightly wrinkle between waterings
Submerging the roots is the most thorough way to water your orchid, let sit in a cup of water until the roots have rehydrated, on average around an hour
They are highly susceptible to root rot, so planting in a high draining medium with adequate aeration is essential

Light Requirements

Keeping a high light level is crucial to the health of an orchid, supplementing with a grow light can be necessary during the winter
Make sure to avoid exposure to direct sun, as it can easily burn the foliage
Epiphytes grow on the trunks of trees, sheltering them from direct light exposure; mimicking this environment will provide the best light conditions
